Research into goal achievement has found that having a desired outcome alone isn't always enough. A major review of 94 studies found that people were more successful in achieving their goals when intentions were translated into specific plans for when, where and how to act.

The same principle applies when planning a garden. Inspiration is a wonderful starting point, but bringing a garden together successfully means developing a clear vision, understanding the decisions involved and knowing what needs to happen next.
